Russian Oil Chief dies after falling from hospital window
Lukoil, a Russian energy company, announced Thursday that its chairman, Ravil Maganov, had died after a “serious illness,” following reports in Russian media that he died after falling out of a hospital window.
After Moscow sent troops to the pro-Western country in February, Lukoil was one of the few major Russian companies to call for an end to the fighting.
The Lukoil board of directors called for an “immediate” end to the fighting in a statement at the time, expressing sympathy to those affected by the “tragedy.”
“We deeply regret to announce that Ravil Maganov… passed away following a serious illness,” Lukoil said on Thursday, without elaborating.
Several Russian news outlets previously reported that Maganov died after falling out of a window at Moscow’s Central Clinical Hospital.
It is known as the Kremlin Hospital because it serves Russia’s political and business elites.
“Maganov fell out of a window at the Central Clinical Hospital this morning. “He died as a result of his injuries,” Interfax reported, citing sources.

According to a police source quoted by RBC business daily, Maganov fell from the hospital’s sixth-floor window.
Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for President Vladimir Putin, told reporters on Thursday that Maganov’s death was not a matter for the Kremlin.
Maganov was born in the year 1954. He had been with Lukoil since 1993 and was the company’s president at the time.
He was one of the company’s first leaders and, according to the company, came up with the current name.
In 2020, Maganov was appointed chairman.
Lukoil said in a statement on Thursday that Maganov “immensely contributed” to the company and the Russian oil and gas industry.
It attributed Maganov’s “managerial talent” to Lukoil’s position as one of the world’s leading energy companies.
Lukoil’s billionaire CEO, Vagit Alekperov, resigned in April after being sanctioned by the United Kingdom for his role in the Ukraine offensive.
