UK Stepped forward to assist Pakistan’s flood victims.
The UK has decided to provide urgent support of £1.5m to Pakistan after flooding hit the south of the country and has killed around 900 people. It has been observed that extreme monsoon rainfall has affected millions, with at least 700,000 homes destroyed and resulted in displacement of people in flood affected areas.
It has also been examined that the UN is carrying out a needs assessment over this weekend and a UN appeal is expected to be launched on coming Tuesday
UK is providing assistance to the people of Pakistan through international organisations working directly with the victims of the disaster, including the World Bank and the United Nations.
Lord Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon, Minister of State for South and Central Asia, North Africa, UN and the Commonwealth and the Prime Minister’s Special Representative on Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict, has said that “The floods in Pakistan have devastated local communities and for that UK has made up a plan of providing up to £1.5 million in order to help the immediate aftermath of flood. We are also witnessing the catastrophe which the climate change can cause and how it impacts vulnerable states the most”.
According to the statement, the £1.5 million of humanitarian funding is an allocation from existing support to Pakistan and will work as a relief for those areas which are badly affected by the flooding.
As the UK has also pledged to partner with Pakistan and invest £55m in order to fight the notion of climate change, managing water in a more sustainable manner and unlock all the climate related investments which were pledged in November 2021 during the COP26 Conference in Glasgow,”
