Retired Teacher loses Rs2.1 million in WhatsApp fraud
A retired teacher from the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh lost about INR2.1 million when she clicked on a link sent to her via WhatsApp from a number she didn’t know.
Police in the area said that Varalakshmi, who lives in the Annamayya district of Andhra Pradesh, was a victim of cyber fraud after she got a WhatsApp message from an unknown number.

After getting the “money has been taken” message, the retired teacher filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime Police. Varalakshmi says that she got the message on WhatsApp, and it had a link with it.
She clicked on the link, and since then, someone who hacked into her phone is said to have taken money out of her bank account several times.
The hackers took a total of INR2.1 million out of her account, taking out INR20,000, INR40,000, and INR80,000 at first.
Scammers were able to empty her bank account, so she called the bank and asked what happened. The bank told her that her account had been hacked and that INR2.1 million had been stolen from it.
