Flash Floods claimed 12 lives, injured 50 in D I Khan so far

Flash Floods claimed 12 lives, injured 50 people and wreaked havoc on infrastructure in Dera Ismail District so far, a report issued by Deputy Commissioner said.

A report issued by Deputy Commissioner D I Khan Nasrullah Khan states that so far the flash floods and hill torrents hurtling down Koh-e-Sulaiman Mountain Range and South Waziristan Hills claimed 12 lives in the entire District, the flash floods killed 4 people in Tehsil D I Khan, 2 in Tehsil Kulachi, 6 in merged Tribal-Tehsil Darazinda so far.

According to the report, 50 people sustained injuries in the entire Dera Ismail Khan District out of which 31 hails from Tehsil D I Khan, 4 belongs to Tehsil Prova, 3 residents of Tehsil Daraban, 4 people of Tehsil Paharpur, 1 of Tehsil Kulachi and 7 residents of Tehsil Darazinda.

The report further states that, a total of 13,827 houses damaged and destroyed in the District Dera Ismail Khan in which 800 houses were of Tehsil D I Khan, 4800 houses devastated in Tehsil Prova, 3600 houses affected in Tehsil Daraban, 3051 houses destroyed in Tehsil Kulachi, 1484 houses of Tehsil Darazinda and 92 houses of Tehsil Paharpur destroyed in the flash floods.

According to the report, a total of 585 livestock perished in the D I Khan District, 23 Livestock perished in Tehsil Prova, 115 in Tehsil Daraban, 30 in Tehsil Paharpur, 55 in Tehsil Kulachi while 362 livestock perished in Tehsil Darazinda, respectively.

Informing about the affect of flash floods on standing crops it is stated in the report that 58,549 Acres agricultural land in Tehsil D I Khan, 98, 367 Acres agricultural land in Tehsil Prova, 33, 440 Acres in Tehsil Paharpur, 328 Acres in Tehsil Daraban while an agricultural land of 2,922 Acres affected by the Flash Floods which is totally 193, 606 Acres Agricultural Land.

Informing about the relief operations the report said, the district administration distributed 3,884 tents, 3,500 mosquito nets, 1,200 pillows 2,100 kitchen sets, 620 quilts, 2,450 mattresses, 1,150 water coolers, 75 life jackets, 1,400 plastic sheets, 350 Jerry Cans, 2,920 Trapaulin Sheet, 650 Hygiene Kits to the flood affectees.

District Administration of D I Khan set up relief camps at Government Degree College (GDC) Prova, Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Ramak, Rural Health Center (RHC) Kirri Shamozai, Government High School Naivelanin Prova Tehsil.

In Daraban Tehsil, relief camps were set up at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Daraban, Government High School Saggu while in Kulachi Tehsil, a relief camp was et up at Tehsil Headquarters Hospital (THQ) Kulachi.

Similarly, in Darazinda tehsil, a relief camp was set up at Government Degree College (Boys) Darazinda while a relief camp was also set up at Ratta Kulachi Sports Complex in D I Khan Tehsil.

Meanwhile, According to Rescue 1122 spokesperson Aizaz Mehmood, Rescue 1122 teams rescued over 780 people and shifted them to safe places while more teams of Rescue 1122 dispatched from other districts to Dera, Tank are also carrying out relief operations in the districts of Dera Ismail Khan and Tank affected by the rain-induced floods, the people trapped in the flood lanes are being pulled out from different flood-affected areas of both the districts.

The rescued people included women, children and elderly people who are being carried on boats and on shoulders by the officials of Rescue 1122.

He informed that the more teams of Rescue 1122 were dispatched from Mardan, Nowshera and Charsadda to Dera Ismail Khan and Tank as the flash floods wrecked havoc in these districts, destroying dozens of villages here.
