Speaking Truth to Oppressed

I am responsible for my consecutive Bollywood failures, says Akshay

Akshay Kumar slams reports of owning private jet

Recently released three consecutive Akshay Kumar films – ‘Bachchan Pandey,’ ‘Samrat Prithviraj,’ and ‘Rakshabandhan’ – fared poorly at the box office. His next film, ‘Cuttputlli,’ will be released exclusively on OTT. When asked about the struggle of films at the box office and the release of films directly on OTT at the trailer launch event for the upcoming thriller, Akshay held himself responsible for the failure of his films.

According to Akshay Kumar, “If the films do not do well, it is our fault, and it is my fault. I need to change them, and I need to understand what the audience wants. I need to change my ways of thinking and thinking about what kind of films I should work on. It would be wrong to blame someone else in such a situation, and it is entirely my fault.”

Following the failure of the previous three films in a row, ‘Cuttputlli’ is being released directly on OTT rather than in theatres. In such a case, Akshay responded to a question by saying that films released on OTT should not be taken lightly.

Akshay was asked if it has become safer for actors to release films on OTT in this situation when Bollywood films are not running. In response to the question, Akshay Kumar stated, “It’s not that it’s risk-free (to release on OTT). The audience should also like or dislike the film in this regard. It has nothing to do with safety. It does not serve as a safety net. The film is seen by a large number of people, including members of the media, critics, and the general public. They decide whether or not they liked the film. Even for films distributed on OTT, we must work hard.”

Akshay Kumar is recognized for working on and releasing multiple films in a single year. When asked how much difference there should be between the films released by any performer in such a situation, Akshay answered, “Many films were completed during the Corona era. Some of it was released, but others were not because of theatre closures or the lockdown. During the lockdown, there were other concerns. We kept working, and the films continued to pile up.”

It is worth noting that Akshay Kumar began the ‘Cuttputlli’ trailer presentation with a puppet-like act on stage and afterward recounted his experience playing a new type of part in the film.

The Hindi version of the 2018 Tamil film, ‘Cuttputlli,’ will be released on Disney+Hotstar on September 02, 2022. (which is based on a real-life psycho killer).

Apart from Akshay Kumar, actresses Rakulpreet, Chandrachud Singh, Sargun Mehta, director Ranjit Tiwari, and producers Jackky Bhagnani and Deepshikha Deshmukh were also present at the trailer premiere.
