The conversion of Manston Airport into an air cargo hub has received approval from the government.
The High Court mandated the Department of Transportation to reevaluate its choice to approve the east Kent construction works last year.
The former Battle of Britain airport will now continue to undergo a £500 million renovation, according to its owners RiverOak.
The decision, according to the Labour group at Thanet District Council, was a “slap in the face for residents.”
Director of RiverOak, Tony Freudmann, stated: “It’s time to celebrate the success of years of campaigning today.
I want to honour the incredible army of Manston Airport supporters who have never given up on giving this important historical aviation asset new life.
150 jobs were lost when Manston Airport closed in May 2014.
East Kent residents have been divided over the site’s intended purpose for many years.
The head of the Labour group on the Thanet District Council, Councillor Rick Everitt, said: “Residents of Ramsgate and other communities who worry about the effects on their community and way of life have our support.
We are still not persuaded that the alleged benefits for the local population are substantial or true.
According to the developers, construction will start later in 2019 and the airport will start offering cargo services in early 2025.
