FIFA, the body in charge of overseeing soccer worldwide, has suspended the All India Football Federation (AIFF) with immediate effect due to “undue influence from third parties.”
Due to Monday’s suspension, the Under-17 Women’s World Cup, which was scheduled to occur in India from October 11 to 30, will no longer occur as scheduled.
A three-member was appointed to administer the sport, alter the AIFF’s charter, and hold elections that had been delayed for 18 months after the AIFF was disbanded by India’s highest court in May.
In response, a delegation from the Asian Football Confederation and FIFA was dispatched to speak with Indian football stakeholders. The committee, which was lead by Windsor John, AFC general secretary, set a timeline for the AIFF, requiring it to alter its rules by the end of July and then finish elections at the latest by September 15.
The suspension will be lifted once the decision to dissolve the AIFF Executive Committee and restore full power to the AIFF administration of the organization’s daily operations has been made, according to a statement issued by FIFA on Monday.
