WHATSAPP working on to empower Admin to approve people in Group chat

WhatsApp is currently developing an interface that will allow administrators of group chats to pre-screen users before allowing them to join in such chats. We have seen progress toward enabling administrators determine who is permitted to join a group chat, and WhatsApp has beta-tested a feature that allows admins to erase other users’ messages. A fresh snapshot provides us with a sneak peak at the potential final product, even if that particular feature is still in the process of being developed.

Even though the latest version of WhatsApp, 2.22.18.9 beta, does not yet make this permission page visible to end users, WABetaInfo was able to activate it and take the screenshot that can be seen below. When it becomes live, this group option will provide administrators with the ability to choose who is allowed to join the group. WABI theorises that we may be able to view a list of requests that are now waiting down below this option.

If an administrator has this option selected, they will be notified whenever a new member requests to join a group once it is operational, which is likely to occur in a subsequent beta release.

It seems like the feature that requires admin permission might be a useful tool for protecting user privacy and warding off spam, particularly in bigger groups. We also view it as having the ability to assist protect members of the group from being harassed. In the event that administrators have any doubts about the legitimacy of a chat request, this function will allow them to cross-check with other members of the group to determine whether or not the request is legitimate. In general, it seems to be a significant step in the right direction for the messaging app, and we are looking forward to its eventual launch.
