500 divorce lawsuits have been filed in Lahore’s Civil Family Courts in the past 10 days by women, the bulk of whom were previously wed to men of their own choice.
It has been stated that women who marry the men of their choosing against the wishes of their parents have started to abandon their husbands’ houses out of so-called love.
In their divorce proceedings, the women stated that they regretted getting married despite going against their parents’ wishes.
One of the women stated her spouse does not have a job. He resorts to violence if sheseek for help with household costs. In their divorce applications, the majority of the ladies claimed that their in-laws had kept them on as their maid.
