PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and JUI-F supremo Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman arrived at Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s personnel residence in Model Town Lahore.
Shehbaz Sharif, President of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz, has called a meeting of coalition partners.
The meeting was also requested by Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz and federal ministers including information minister Maryam Aurenzaib, Khawaja Saad Rafique, and Ayaz Saddiq.
Last night, the PPP CEC deliberated on the post-by-election scenario and announced that the coalition government would serve out its term.
Earlier, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah briefed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the reasons for defeat in by-elections during a meeting in Lahore.
Rana claimed that PMLN voters did not accept PTI defectors and that PMLN leaders failed to persuade voters to vote for them on election day.
The PTI’s victory in the Punjab by-elections has changed the numbers game in the Punjab Assembly, with Chaudhry Pervez Elahi now nearly having the necessary lawmakers’ support to replace Hamza Shahbaz Sharif as the province’s new chief minister on July 22nd.
Almost all of the PML-N defectors who voted for Hamza Shahbaz Sharif lost to PTI candidates.
The PTI has 188 members in the PA, while the simple majority is 186 and the ruling coalition has 179 members.
