Yasir Shah’s delivery initiates modern day ‘Ball of the Century’ debate

With his magnificent delivery that left Sri Lanka batter Kusal Mendis stunned, Pakistan spinner Yasir Shah has produced a candidate for ‘Ball of the Century.’

During the twentieth century, Australian legend Shane Warne undoubtedly produced the ‘Ball of the Century.’

Following his peach of delivery against Sri Lanka in the first Test in Galle on Monday, Pakistan veteran Yasir Shah has laid claim to doing similar in the twenty-first century.

Yasir bowled Sri Lanka batter Kusal Mendis cleanly with a textbook leg-spin delivery that completely confused the in-form right-hander.

Yasir’s delivery pitched outside leg stump before turning sharply to the left and clipping the top of Mendis’ off-stump, similar to Warne’s efforts in Manchester 29 years ago.

It immediately reminded commentators of Warne’s magical delivery to dismiss England veteran Mike Gatting during the first Ashes Test at Old Trafford in 1993, with the two deliveries being immediately compared.

While it will be difficult to top Warne’s stunning delivery, Yasir came close with a delivery that will be remembered for years to come.
