LHC bans non-M-tag vehicles on highways, Rs2000 fine imposed on license absence
Traffic police Lahore has decided to ticket drivers without driving licenses. A fine of Rs 2,000 has already been levied for one-way violations. The traffic police issued 18,670 challans in 13 days.
The Lahore High Court (LHC) had ordered to increase the challan penalty from Rs 200 to Rs 2,000 for one-way violation. Safe Cities cameras are now being used to expand the scope of action against violators. It would be impossible for the citizens to evade tickets through Safe City Cameras. Citizens have reacted mixedly to the move.
The High Court has also ordered to increase the fine without a license to Rs 2,000 to improve the traffic situation. The traffic police have issued 18,670 challans for violating one-way in 13 days.
According to the traffic police, heavy fines will reduce lawlessness and help establish traffic discipline.
On the other hand, the Lahore High Court has ordered to ban entry of vehicles without M-tag on National Highways and Motorways. The court has made M-tag mandatory on all cars till December 7. Justice Shahid Karim said that vehicles without M-tag are the most significant cause of smog.
