Lahore: On Tuesday, a woman died due to the negligence of LESCO in the busy Ichra market.
The 38-year-old woman, named Saba, came for shopping in the market along with her three daughters. While she was passing near an electric pole, a transformer fell on her and she lost her life within minutes on the spot. Meanwhile, one of her daughters is in critical condition in Services hospital, Lahore.
The shopkeeper who witnessed this incident said, “This falling down of transformer didn’t happen for the first time. Rather, it happened a few days back when it fell on the roof of shop made of tin but it did not harm any property. After the incident, we informed the authorities but no action was taken against the complaint.”
“Once spark in the wires connected to the transformer resulted in fire near the shop burning the roll of cloths, people often while passing near the pole suffered electric shocks. We wonder what it will take for the LESCO authorities to awaken from their stupor and to take steps beyond superficial measures. We demand strict action against the officials who did not ensure the repair or regulation of transformer,” told the shop owner to The Asian Mirror.
“Mere few sentences of sympathy by those in authority are not enough to assuage the victim’s family. We hope in this case and in other instances the government goes beyond usual platitude to ensure the safety of people and their lives,” he added.
