Discipline is a wonderful thing. It is a goal that will only be accomplished by following a path that will cause a great deal of pain. Walking this path will require a good deal of hard work and dedication because this path is not an easy one to walk. Sometimes, people fall off. Sometimes, the direction of the path needs to be changed. Sometimes, the path needs to be broken up into smaller trips in order to be able to complete the whole journey. Human beings are the larger parts of a social framework and for any framework to function, rules and regulations are an absolute necessity. When these regulations guide human behavior and devise a sense of organization, a system or an individual is said to be disciplined. Discipline finds its importance in every aspect of humans as well as other forms of life. It instills a sense of responsibility, credibility and nurtures a person to be more accountable for their actions.
Discipline is a fundamental part of our everyday life. From writing an essay to wearing a perfect school uniform to winning a game of chess or badminton everything related to our school life is based on discipline. Adults too, owe most of their success to discipline. Maintaining a good performance at work or taking care of your health with age all need a certain amount of discipline.
Acting according to order and a set of rules improves punctuality and planning. Discipline is a combination of rules, management, and order which helps to retain the natural flow of life. In addition to this, the discipline also adds balance. It helps us to differentiate and manage our actions. It is essential not only in the lives of school-going students but also people in the army or a sportsperson who wishes to build a peaceful and successful life and others find it inspiring.
Discipline is a natural requirement. It is the mechanism of nature. Electrons in an atom, planets around the sun, man around the Ka’bah, everything from a single particle to the great sun, everything is finely well-organized. This universe did not come into existence as an accident nor did it happen by chance but it is the essence of Allah Almighty who created it and spread it.
A cursory glance at the universe reveals how neatly the universe, with its infinite vastness, was created. The seasons did not merge into each other. Flowers can grow, but have we ever wondered how it was possible in the creation of this universe that so many stars of the solar system and the earth, the planets, the sun, the moon, water, and air seem to be captives of nature? Whether it is the gusts of wind or the flow of rivers and waterfalls, the flooding of rivers or the volcanoes of the mountains, there seems to be an order in the system of power, and if we consider it, we can understand that it is a true picture of discipline. Our brain, nerves, blood circulation, and respiration are subject to certain rules and regulations. It is obvious that if we deviate from these rules and regulations or try to change the times of a system, the balance of life will be disturbed. The Holy Qur’an states: “All the planets are orbiting in their own orbits.”
It is the devotion to the cause that motivates a person to move forward and to face difficulties. It is the commitment to the goal that makes the impossible possible. The purpose of a perfect system of life is always determined by discipline. When children learn to control their behavior wisely, self-discipline begins to develop in their lives, and they begin to show good attitudes and high behavior. According to Mark Twain, “To be good is noble, but to teach others well is nobler and to make others good is noblest”. The ideal teacher opens the closed vaults of students’ minds and builds the character of his students with good manners by making them disciplined. Teachers are the real tool of establishing discipline among the students. They teach goodness, they make people better and better, and that is the essence of teaching and learning.
The founder of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam, had also taught the nation a great lesson of unity, belief, and discipline. Quaid-e-Azam said, “With faith, discipline and selfless devotion to duty, there is nothing worthwhile that you cannot achieve”. The rise of Islam was also due to national discipline, unity, and organization. Thanks to national unity, belief, and organization, even a small number of Muslims, by the grace of Allah, went on conquering great empires. It was a charisma of unity and discipline that the Arab nation, which was plunged into the darkness of ignorance, surpassed all the nations of the world. Where there is a lack of discipline and unity for the stability of society, for the liberation of nations, and for the development of empires, and there will be the rule of anomalies, there will be humiliation, slavery, and decline of the nation.
If we love ourselves and society and homeland and we are really sincere to Pakistan and want to see our nation in the ranks of developed nations of the world, we must create unity and discipline in our ranks. And we must show unity and discipline at all times, in every place, sitting and walking. We must never forget the principle of discipline in our thoughts and actions.
