Kashmir is generally referred to as Heaven on Earth. When we anticipate heaven a utopian concept flashes across one’s mind. Nonetheless, there is quite a lot of irony in it. Quite the opposite sketch is drawn by this earthly heaven. Kashmir Issue is the longest ongoing conflict on the face of the earth. More than three generations of Kashmiris have merely witnessed oppression, bloodshed, and atrocities beyond one’s imagination. But the thing that is of great concern to the so-called secular state is no matter what they have done so far turns out to be worthless and ineffective as it failed to choke down the uprising. Every machination they have put into practice failed to coerce the people into submission and silence. Be it use of force, economic projects, or support of minority leaders loyal to India. Having said that Kashmiris have denied agreeing upon any less than emancipation from Nazi-inspired regime.

The region has been classified as the most militarized zone in the world with 800,000 plus active troops. This unprecedented deployment of troops against the meager population is a living testimony that they aim to coerce the people into submission and silence. Those who dare to raise voices demanding their most fundamental right, the right of self-determination end up being the victim’s state-sponsored terrorism.

Moreover, with the implementation of draconian laws such as ” ARMED FORCES SPECIAL POWERS ACT” and “JAMMU & KASHMIR DISTURBED AREAS ACT” security personnel are granted absolute power over people in the region. Para-military forces are also guilty of ejecting fire on unarmed masses later portraying deaths as a result of skirmishes with terrorists. Indian claims of democratic and secular state are merely hollow inside. The cries of people never get outstretched to the world outside, as India has denied access to any international human rights monitoring groups to enter into the valley. Every dimension of freedom be it religious, social, or political is scarce on this earthly heaven.

Moreover, back in August 2019, the autonomous status granting special rights to the people of Kashmir was revoked unilaterally without the consent of the people of the region. It is clearly imperative that India aims on replicating the same vicious model enacted by Israel in Palestine. As they already seem to be well on their way to ensuring the ethnic cleansing of Muslims causing the Muslim majority to turn into a minority so that they could better implement their hegemonic design over the region. As part of this process, they already have started illicit transfer of population into the valley allotting lands to Hindus especially their army personnel to establish control of the region.

Furthermore, media which is reckoned to be the 4th pillar of democracy doesn’t seem to either fulfill their obligation. according to Malcolm X,” The media have the power to make innocent guilty and to make guilty the innocent”. Seems like International media stakeholders have been working hard to prove this saying just. It’s been over two years since the autonomous status of disputed territory which grants special rights to the people of the region was unilaterally shattered by the Hindutva-driven regime yet it doesn’t appear to create much churn in the so-called civilized world. Everything seems to be driven by political, economic & material gains. The life of innocent beings is no more significant at all.

To top it all off the role of international powers in this regard seems to be quite dubious. Although there are countless resolutions in the UN security council they have been put clearly on the back burner. US-led Western world undoubtedly thinks China to be their greatest rival, somehow, they believed that India because of its colossal size and population has the potential to halt the economic rise of China. With this vague assumption, it goes against their ulterior motives to haul India into International court. Such biased standards from so-called enlightened & civilized societies not only sets bad example for other nations but also put the entire region on the verge of nuclear war.
All in all, such hegemonic design by nations like India poses a potential threat to world peace. The International society must understand that fact as stated by South African noble prize winner “Desmond Tutu” “if you are choosing to be neutral in situations of injustice, then you have chosen the side of the oppressor.” Considering that, there is a dire need for the international community as well as international media stakeholders to recognize such actions as not only fraught with danger but also ensure on taking strict measures against nations indulged in ethnic cleansing and state terrorism. Or else the world will always remain at the stake of nuclear war with its repercussions far beyond one’s anticipation.
