DHORONARO-UMERKOT: Achhro Thar is spread over 23 thousand square kilometers. Its boundaries start from Umarkot and go beyond the Ghotki district of Sindh to Punjab, after which the area of Cholistan begins.
Kalankar Lake is situated between the sand dunes in Achhro Thar, 6 km north of the town of Umerkot, a famous and historical region of Sindh, Dhoronaro. Thus, in these areas of Sindh, there are many lakes that came into existence due to the collapse of rivers and the water of the canal also kept them happy. Not ready to value. We have been treating Kalankar lake in a similar manner and its natural beauty and the life in the lake have been damaged. Tufail we have definitely got Kalankar and other lakes which have to be protected.
The reason for the fame of Kalankar Lake was the beautiful scenery as well as the various types of fish in it, including Chakar, Sangari, Kariro, Jharka, and others, but now the water here is no longer suitable for the growth and abundance of fish and this is The reason is that a large number of fishermen living along this lake have migrated from here. The lake is surrounded by tall dunes while surrounded by greenery and trees, which are its natural beauty.
The water level in the lake has become very low and this lake once spread over 4 thousand square acres, has also shrunk in terms of area to a very small area. In drawing attention to this, the Sindh government has taken some steps to make it a recreational and tourist destination, but these are insufficient. To reach the lake, one has to cover an arduous trek of about four kilometers.
In winter, like the lakes across Sindh, different types of birds from abroad arrive here after a long journey, but due to lack of water, their numbers are also decreasing. The area around the lake was inhabited by a village of 150 fishermen’s houses, whose residents have been forced to migrate due to economic problems, and today only 10 houses remain. They are also living with difficulty due to the scarcity of water in the lake.
The present situation of the lake is that it has no source of freshwater except rainwater, its water has become bitter and salty, which is proving to be harmful to aquatic life. has reduced. All the natural passages have been occupied by influential people and the crops have been cultivated.
