GCU Lahore celebrates Harry Potter week

The Last Follower x Harry Potter festival is currently happening in Government College University, Lahore. It includes the screening of a fan made film titled as “The Last Follower: Resurrection of Voldemort” inspired from the popular fiction movie series “Harry Potter”.

The film has been made by the students of Government College University in association with a film making company called Khayali Production. The creators and cast&crew of the film revealed that the entire film was shot with a single camera without any extraordinary resources. Furthermore, the team received no funds from any authoritative body and the students managed film’s budget with their own pocket money.

The cast members of the film revealed that the inspiration behind this film was their love for Harry Potter films which they had been enjoying since childhood. As the film is shot in GCU building and according to the makers of the film, the reason for choosing GCUL as the film’s setting was its resemblance with Hogwarts.

This fan made version of Harry Potter  has received immense success since the beginning of this week as it has created a buzz on social media platforms encouraging Potterheads to go and watch the film.

The festival began from 29th November and will continue till 5th of December. Two shows of the film are arranged everyday for the audience to see and it has been noted that Bukhari Hall of GC university where the movie’s screening is arranged is fully packed with the audience every day.

The Vice chancellor of GCUL also made an appearance during the screening of the film and appreciated students for their hard work and enthusiasm. While appreciating the team he remarked that “ when the students wanted to arrange the screening of the film in GCUL, I instructed them to create whole mood of the film by arranging a Harry Potter festival on campus along with the screening.” Upon which the students arranged a festival in the Salam Hall building of GCU where they displayed the props used in the making of the film. The hall was also decorated according to the Harry Potter film’s theme.

Although, this festival has been a good news for the Potterheads, it also received some negative critique. Some people are not appreciating Government College University for promoting western culture and art. Whatever the difference of opinions might be, one thing is for certain that the students responsible for the creation worked really hard and gave their sweat and blood to the making of this film and they definitely deserve appreciation for it.
