The cruel father who murdered his 7-day old baby girl, Janat, must be awarded exacting punishment. The pagan Arabs in the pre-Islamic society used to bury their daughters alive, which has been declared to be a callous and criminal act by Allah in the Holy Qur’an. The final prophet Muhammad (PBUH) declared that daughters are the mercy of Allah and he has given glad tidings of paradise to those parents who raise their daughters virtuously. The fact of the matter is that due to detachment from religion and lack of faith in Allah, the birth of daughters was met with anger and resentment even in the subcontinent. In truth, even in today’s world people sometimes become brutes leading to repulsive incidents of female infanticide such as the instances in Mianwali and Liaquatabad Karachi. Islam is a complete code of life and until we enforce that system in toto, at the individual and collective levels, we would not be able to eradicate such heinous crimes from our society. The perpetrators of such atrocious crimes must be awarded swift and exacting punishment so that the crime rate in society could be curbed.
