Falak Noor kidnapping case: A call to protect girls' rights in Pakistan

The case of Falak Noor has sparked widespread concern and calls for urgent action to ensure justice and the safe return of the 13-year-old girl.

Falak Noor was allegedly abducted approximately two months ago while she was on her way for religious education near a community center in Sultanabad, Gilgit.

The circumstances surrounding her disappearance are highly suspicious, with reports suggesting that she may have been forcibly married to her neighbor.

Despite her father, Ahmed, filing a complaint on January 20, Falak Noor has not been recovered, leaving her family distraught and seeking answers.

According to her father, she was taken to Mansehra, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where a marriage was allegedly staged under circumstances of cruelty and coercion.

The Chairperson of the National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW), Nilofar Bakhtiar, has vehemently demanded justice for Falak Noor and has emphasized the urgent need for intervention from the authorities.

Additionally, she announced her planned visit to Gilgit-Baltistan, indicating the seriousness with which the NCSW is treating this case.

The abduction and forced marriage of Falak Noor highlight the persistent challenges faced by young girls and women in Pakistan, particularly in remote areas where such incidents may occur with impunity.

It underscores the importance of effective law enforcement, swift action by authorities, and the protection of vulnerable individuals, especially minors, from exploitation and abuse.

The case has garnered attention on social media and among advocacy groups, with many calling for accountability and measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The NCSW’s involvement in advocating for Falak Noor further underscores the need for collective efforts to address issues related to gender-based violence and the protection of women and girls’ rights in Pakistan.
