Karachi reports more cases of Omicron

LAHORE: The provincial health department announced on Monday that 62 more persons have tested positive for the Omicron type of the coronavirus in Lahore.

The number of verified Omicron cases in Punjab has risen to 117, with 112 of them occurring in the province capital alone. Among those affected with the new strain are six members of a family.

The Omicron variation of the coronavirus is spreading quickly, according to the health department, with an infection rate higher than the Delta variety.

Covid-19 cases are on the rise across the country, with 708 new infections reported in the preceding 24 hours and a 1.55 percent positivity rate.

Asad Umar, the Minister of Planning and Development who also oversees the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), said on Sunday that there is obvious evidence of the start of another Covid wave, which has been expected for a few weeks.

“Genome sequencing shows a rising proportion of omicron cases, notably in Karachi,” he tweeted, urging citizens to follow SOPs, which include wearing masks, to avoid contracting the virus.
