Karachi reports more cases of Omicron

KARACHI: The Omicron strain of the coronavirus was confirmed in eleven more cases in Karachi on Friday, according to the report.

Eleven members of a single household were confirmed to be sick with the new strain, according to sources.

Residents of the city’s District East are afflicted, with eight women and three men ranging in age from 26 to 77. With the addition of the new cases, the total number of confirmed Omicron variant cases in the city has increased to 44.

Karachi has reported more cases of Omicron.

According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), 75 instances of the Omicron variant have been reported in Pakistan as of December 28. The instances were reported in Karachi, Islamabad, and Lahore, with 33 in Karachi, 17 in Islamabad, and 13 in Lahore.

Authorities are performing contact tracing, according to the NIH, to prevent the omicron variety from spreading farther across the country.

Omicron is a variant of SARS-CoV-2 first reported to the World Health Organization by the Network for Genomics Surveillance in South Africa on 24 November 2021. It was first detected in Botswana and has spread to become the predominant variant in circulation around the world.

Omicron was first detected on 22 November 2021 in laboratories in Botswana and South Africa based on samples collected on 11–16 November, with the first known samples collected in Johannesburg, South Africa on 8 November 2021.
