Remains of children found at storage unit in New Zealand

The New Zealand family purchased unwanted items at a storage unit auction turned out to be a batch of two children’s remains hidden in luggage.

Detectives said the youngsters, who were between the ages of five and ten, had been dead for a while and that the bodies had been in storage for at least three or four years.

Police are working through a challenging inquiry to determine the children’s names as part of a possible global investigation.

The family from Auckland brought home the personal and household things last week after buying them in an online auction. They had nothing to do with the fatalities, said by Detective Inspector Tofilau Faamanuia Vaaelua who highlighted that they were understandably upset upon learning of them.

He stated that the investigation team was working extremely hard to identify and bring to justice the person or persons liable for the murders of these youngsters.

It’s never an easy duty to look into gruesome situations like these, no matter how many years you spend doing it. “I am a parent of small children. However, we have work to do.”

He said that authorities have gotten in touch with Interpol and foreign law enforcement, which could be a sign that they think the suspect or suspects are currently residing abroad.

Given the amount of time that had passed between the time of the death and their discovery, he continued, “The nature of this discovery create some complexity of the inquiry.”
