Islamophobia International Day: A victory for Pakistan

Islamophobia International Day

The resolution passed by the UNGA to observe an International Day combat Islamophobia is a profound diplomatic victory for Pakistan and the Muslim world. It all started with his address to the UNGA on 27 September 2019, when the PM of Pakistan raised a robust voice against Islamophobia. During the last three years, Pakistan has been engaged in tireless ambassadorial efforts on the world stage on various diplomatic forums for eliminating Islamophobia and organized hate speech, including the publishing of blasphemous caricatures, as well as stamping out discrimination against Muslims. The decision made by the UN to observe 15 March of each year as the International Day to combat Islamophobia is a milestone for the Muslim world, the importance of which can be gauged by the fact that India, France, and the EU expressed grave reservations on the resolution tabled in the UNGA and the enemies of Islam are fuming at it being passed. The fact of the matter is that Western powers and their allies including India, Israel, and France have increased brutality against Muslims, and their continuous acts of enmity, discrimination, and violence against Muslims have unraveled their posturing as the champions of human rights. The unanimous passing of the resolution against Islamophobia in the UNGA tabled by Pakistan and the decision to observe 15 March as the International Day to combat Islamophobia is a symbolic gesture at best. The Muslim world must unite on this issue and take practical measures against those oppressing Muslims in the world.
