Speaking Truth to Oppressed

What is a “Nation”?

The definition of nation is that it’s a large group of people who share a common history, culture and language and live in a particular region or country. This is a very simple and easy definition of the nation which you will find in any book.

Nation-state means an independent state consisting of different citizens or individuals who are bound together by language or common ancestry. But the problem is that with these two definitions neither Pakistanis become a nation nor Pakistan a state. So here we have a fantasy set up through different kinds of crackers. Strangely enough, if you load it with the slightest question, it crumbles. Moreover, according to Pakistani law, you cannot even disagree with this self-imposed doctrine

In other words, the theory under which the Pakistan movement was run was completely changed and the conceptual theory created after the creation of Pakistan cannot even be questioned. And perhaps this is the reason why research is practically banned in Pakistan on the founder of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah

This question we must ask ourselves that what are the reasons why PhD research on the founder of Pakistan is not allowed in Pakistan. The matter is that at the time of the establishment of Pakistan, different nations were present in India with their own historical, cultural, and linguistic identities.

It was suggested that the Muslims living in India and belonging to different nations supported the creation of Pakistan. Immediately after the creation of Pakistan, the concept of a strong federation was created by leaving the central government behind, leaving behind the road map set in the Lahore Resolution.

The question is whether Muslims are a nation. The answer is that the basic definition of a nation is because a common ancestor, a common culture, a common language and a common region, Therefore, Muslims can be a nation; we can be a religion, but not a nation. The Qur’an itself negates the statement of the Muslim nation in these words, “That God divided you into different nations and tribes so that you could recognize each other.”
Let’s assume for a moment that Muslims are one nation just as Israeli law says all Jews are one nation, According to the Israeli claim, the language of all Jews is Hebrew, they have a common ancestor and their basic culture is the same. That any Jew born anywhere in the world, he is a citizen of Israel. Now, if we apply this principle in Pakistan, i.e. Muslims are one nation and Pakistan is the country of Muslims, then it should happen that any Muslim born in any corner of the world should automatically become a Pakistani or he considered a citizen of Pakistan by birth.

The practical situation is that a citizen of any Muslim country needs a Pakistan visa just like any other country. Rather, we are talking about the Muslims belonging to Afghanistan to go back to Afghanistan despite being born on Pakistani soil, working here, getting married and having children and raising them. Now here comes the issue that then what is the two nation theory, The two-nation theory says that Muslims and Hindus are two different nations, then the next question that arises is whether Sikhs and Muslims are also two separate nations? That is, if a nation is formed by religion, then like Hindus and Muslims, Sikhs and Muslims should be two separate nations, But then why is it that the founder of Pakistan Muhammad Ali Jinnah tried hard for Sikhs to join Pakistan?

In one of his statements, Muhammad Ali Jinnah himself says that a strong central government is being established in India under a constitution in which the Sikhs will be neglected and meaningless They should join Pakistan which will be a conglomerate of independent states. This demand was rejected by the then Sikh leaders and initially demanded a separate Sikh state on the basis of religion However, this demand was rejected in the Cabinet Commission Plan 1946 and thus Punjab was partitioned and its Sikh majority region became part of India. That is, the two-nation theory was originally to create Pakistan with the annexation of Muslim-majority units In which all the nations flourished along with their cultural, historical and linguistic identity And at the same time, a loose federation should also be established which is establishing the Pakistani nation or umbrella on the basis of the constitution

Then, on August 11, 1947, the founder of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, addressed the first Constituent Assembly, only three days before the establishment of Pakistan “That the state has nothing to do with your religion or sect and all citizens will be equal in the eyes of the state.”

Not only this, it was also said that people will see that with the passage of time, Muslims living in Pakistan will not remain Muslims and Hindus will not remain Hindus “Not religiously because religion is a separate and personal matter but as a citizen of Pakistan.“ After the creation of Pakistan, all the issues were changed and in the plan to strengthen the federation, the concept of Pakistani nation was created by seizing the resources of different regions and weakening the cultural and historical status of the units. According to this artificial concept, there is a Muslim nation living in Pakistan and the language of this Muslim nation is Urdu, and for this it is obvious that important changes had to be made in history, that is, that the Muslims living in Pakistan are a nation, and the country has made its own history.

That is why sometimes you hear that Pakistan was formed when Muhammad bin Qasim invaded Sindh, sometimes you hear that Pakistan was formed when the first Hindu became a Muslim in India, sometimes you hear that Pakistan was formed when Sir Syed Ahmed Khan started a movement to highlight the importance of education among Muslims and make them come forward in various fields.

In my opinion, these are some of the fundamental questions and the solution to our problems is also hidden in them, and the obstacles in the path of history, that is, the fundamental obstacles in the path of development, are connected to the fundamental problems. The issue is that the nation that distorts history, history distorts it and the nation that makes history, history makes that nation.

It is very important for a better tomorrow that we decide now that all the ethnic groups living in the country should be allowed to live with full recognition of their culture, civilization and language. They should be given maximum autonomy to make important decisions based on their own environment and needs and at the same time be bound to the federation by constitutional agreement.

It is very important that Pakistan should be considered as a state of different nations instead of a nation state or it is also very important that strong steps should be taken to protect the national language of each region And the powers of the provinces should be increased, but it is also very important that the provinces take these powers to the lower level as well. The current situation is that it has been almost ten years since the Eighteenth Amendment was passed and the powers of the provinces were increased under this amendment. However, these powers have not yet reached the lower levels from the provinces. The question is that it took many decades to pass the Eighteenth Amendment, so will it take decades to bring the powers down to the lower level?
