Teaching – A 24 hour dominated field

“Teaching” when you hear this profession, what do you imagine? What thought come to your mind first? Teaching is the only undeniable profession for females. Although a teacher has to put more effort into teaching strategies for improvement in every lesson plan, She has to work under a lot of pressure, it can be from family or administration, or society. It is not a 6 to 7 hours job, but it is a 24-hour job. you have to be available 24/7 no matter what. if your assignment is not completed on time, you have to take it home. But at home, the scenario is different for females. If you are a mother or have a family, you have to perform all the duties assigned to scenario teaching No compromise. you have to clean the home, cook food, wash clothes, and dishes, take care of every single member of the family, and if you are living in a joint family as 97% of the Pakistani families live, then it’s “sony py suhaga”. you have to be more conscious of her every act.

We all know teaching is a noble profession. It is superior to all because it is a profession of Prophets. A “Teacher” is responsible for grooming every student. She has the future of every child in her hand. She has to be very conscious, honest, and loyal. When a teacher enters class, she has to be energetic, active, loving, and caring to make students comfortable to ask questions and learn to the best of their life. The very first step to teaching is to be kind to your students and make them confident enough to ask questions and share their views. This can only happen when a teacher is mentally relaxed and fresh because you only can give what you already have. Now everyone knows what most teachers have.

One of the reasons behind ‘teaching – a dominant field for females’ is that it has fewer working hours than any other field. A teacher is free after a maximum of 7.5 working hours and can do another household. It is considered only a women’s job because a teacher has less interaction with male members rather than in any private field. Nowadays, in every private school, a teacher has to interact with every parent during PTM or any other school event. She has to interact, convince and report them.

When I was in class 2, it was our last day before summer vacations. Our English teacher, teacher Shaheena, wrote a question on the board and asked everyone to answer it. It was “What do you want to be?”. Everyone was giving answers when she came to me and said: “Yes Arooj.. What do you want to be?”. At that time I was very much inspired by her and I replied: “I want to be a teacher”. Then she said: “Be whatever you want to be but never choose to be a teacher, it’s a tough job for women”. Although I never wanted to be a teacher, I become a teacher, not by choice but by chance.
