On the account of the death anniversary of the father of the nation Quaid-e-Azam nation Muhammad Ali Jinnah, it will be not wrong to say that no one can ever compete with a leader like him. He not only won a separate homeland for Muslims living on the subcontinent but also identified the issues facing the new state that need to be addressed as a priority issue.
It was such a daunting task to set a separate homeland for the Muslims of the subcontinent who for a long time were encountering the oppressions of both the Hindus and Britishers. Quaid remained focused on identifying how to make Pakistan happier and more prosperous. Despite of the challenges he had to face still through his firm determination he made the impossible, possible.
In his speech to the Constituent Assembly on August 11, 1947, he said that the first duty of the state was to maintain law and order so that the life, property, and religious beliefs of its citizens were fully protected. Keeping in view his words, contemporary Pakistan lacks all such things. Justice is delayed, rule of law is most often politicized, and religious extremism is increasing day by day.
Quaid E Azam also used to mention that bribery and corruption were poison and had to be brought down with an iron hand. He also identified black marketing, nepotism, and work as the other evils that plague society that needed to be eliminated. We can hardly see such traits in any of our current leaders. Corruption has been so normalized in our society that no one bothers to address this concern.
It is a pity that, even after seventy-five years of independence, we as a nation have failed to follow the path envisioned by the founder of Pakistan and to realize the priorities outlined by him. All the evils he identified have penetrated deeply into our social fibers and we have diverted the path he had envisioned to put Pakistan on the path to prosperity. No leader can ever be envisioned like Quaid E Azam.
On the account of the death anniversary of our great leader, one should ask himself whether the elitist mind frame for which everyone is struggling in our surroundings will benefit our country or not. It’s high time to think that whether the profession which we have opted for will be fruitful for our state or not. We have been so self-centered that no one bothers about the state. Quaid managed to give a separate and independent homeland to the people of Pakistan and now it’s our responsibility to pay back something to our homeland.
