Social media: An illusion

“Social media is not real life! ” this is a phrase we often hear in everyday life when people criticize the false reality of social media. Like other social media platforms, Instagram pushes this “perfect” reality of the people around us. It’s great to see what our favorite stars and influencers are up to, but it’s worth the price of ruining our perspective on our own lives and directions and directions through the lens of social media.

The False Reality

Technologies like Photoshop, Snapchat filters, and other editing tools help create the illusion of being fully up to society’s high standards. Many people use these on a daily basis or on social media. Using one of these tools has become so common these days that I can say that I do too. But at the end of the day, we have to realize that not all of this is 100% true. We need to check reality to make sure we are not consumed by the high standards and pressures presented by social media and society.

We are ourselves and we are human beings created to be authentic in order to do so. Keep this in mind the next time you’re scrolling through social media and see a post from an influencer questioning yourself. Deep down, we all struggle with the illusion of social media and the effect it has on us.
