ISLAMABAD: The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) submitted two projects worth Rs191.2 billion to the National Economic Council’s Executive Committee (Ecnec) for approval on Monday.
The Ministry of Water Resources presented a project called the “Greater Karachi Bulk Water Supply Scheme” K-IV 650MGD (revised) to the committee during the meeting, which was presided over by Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan.
CDWP confers K-IV water supply project to ECNEC. The project was offered with a decreased scope and cost of Rs126 billion for 260MGD water.
Planning Secretary Abdul Aziz Uqaili, senior officials from the Planning Commission, and officials from federal ministries and divisions attended the meeting.
Last month, the Water & Power Development Authority (Wapda) chairman Lieutenant General Muzammil Hussain said Monday during his visit to the site of Karachi’s bulk water supply project K-IV that the scheme will have been completed by October 2023.
According to the Wapda director, the project design goal for the K-IV scheme has already been met, and construction work on the site will begin just three to four months after the contract is awarded.
Separately, Lt. Gen. Hussain paid a visit to the Nai Gaj Dam in Sindh’s Dadu district, where he stated that the project, which has resumed work, will be completed in 2024.
