Go Crypto, in partnership with Plan Foundation, is enabling bitcoin payments for the city of Lugano, Switzerland, including McDonald’s, which now accepts Bitcoin.

Founded by the same people who founded Tether and the city of Lugano, the foundation plans to expand bitcoin adoption in the city, optionally influencing all day-to-day activities for city residents.

Not only is this optional in the form of payments, but the foundation aims to transform the existing financial infrastructure in the city.

To scale across the city, the foundation partnered with GoCrypto, a cryptocurrency payments provider.

A dozen merchants have the ability to process GoCrypto payments across the city, including businesses like McDonald’s and art galleries.

In the next 25 days, the functionality is to be extended so that more businesses in Lugano can accept Bitcoin.

A one-minute video showing how to order food from McDonald’s digital kiosk and then pay for it at the regular register using a mobile app was uploaded to Twitter by Bitcoin Magazine on October 3.

The Tether (USDT) logo was next to the Bitcoin symbol on the lending machine, which is not surprising since in March 2022 the city of Lugano announced that it would accept Bitcoin, Tether and the LVGA token as currency legal.a

On March 3, 2022, the city signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Tether Operations Limited, launching the so-called “Plan B”.

Under this plan, Tether has created two funds, the first is a $ 106 million or CHF 100 million investment pool for cryptocurrency startups, and the second is about $ 3 million, or 3 millions of Swiss francs, to encourage the adoption of cryptocurrencies for shops and businesses in the city.

As McDonalds enables Swiss residents to pay through Bitcoin, Lugano residents will also be able to pay taxes with cryptocurrencies, the project will extend payments to include parking tickets, public services and university fees.

More than 200 stores and businesses in the area are also expected to accept crypto payments for goods and services.
