OIC secretary-general reaches Pakistan on 3-day visit

Hissein Brahim Taha, the secretary general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and a five-person delegation has arrived in Islamabad on Saturday for a three-day official visit.

Taha will be travelling to the country for the first time since taking office in November 2021 at the invitation of Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

To debate topics on the OIC agenda, including Jammu and Kashmir, Islamophobia, and the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, they will hold a delegation-level discussion.

The OIC secretary general will visit Azad Jammu and Kashmir during his trip and will also meet with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif (AJK).

The ministers of commerce, information technology, and Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan affairs will also meet with the OIC secretary general.

Taha’s visit will enable an exchange of views on how the OIC can galvanize itself further to deliver on the aspirations of the 1.9 billion Muslims that it represents.

The bilateral discussions would “provide an opportunity to exchange views on vital issues of economic, social, and technological cooperation among OIC member countries,” according to the Foreign Office.

It further stated that Pakistan, an OIC founding member, would keep working to advance Islamic unity, solidarity, and communication within the group.
