Despite Pakistan’s ability to produce the same number of long-lasting insecticide nets (LLINs) locally, The Global Fund (TGF), the world’s largest financier of AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria prevention placed an order with India at the request of the federal government.
This is why the LLIN manufacturing sector in Pakistan has requested the federal government to bring up the matter with TGF and suggest that it buy those nets from Pakistan instead, since doing so will be advantageous to both the donor and the company.
TGF has not taken into account the Pakistani industry, despite the fact that WHO-approved LLIN companies there recently donated two million nets to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) for patients with malaria and dengue.
He continued by saying that by the time India delivers those nets to TGF in March, it will be too late to protect the flood victims from ailments like malaria, dengue fever, and other flood-related illnesses.
The official also expressed surprise at TGF’s flagrant disregard for the Pakistani sector and the lack of interest shown by the federal government in the situation.
He added that a letter urging the Ministry of National Health Services (MoNHS) to persuade TGF to purchase the nets from local vendors had also been submitted.
