Nepal: Avalanche strikes Manaslu base camp
In the morning around 9:40 a.m. local time, a huge avalanche hit Manaslu base camp. No fatalities were reported, but the landslide destroyed 30 tents, according to Tashi Lakpa Sherpa of the 14 Peaks Expedition.
According to Warner Rojas of Costa Rica, the last Sherpa to die in the avalanche was descending from Camp 2 to Camp 1. More details on this are currently not available.
Imagine Mingma G from Nepal said he had never seen an avalanche-like this before. “Everyone is safe and our team returns to the base camp,” he added. “We will try to close our camp today and leave the base camp safely.”
A huge avalanche room beat the Manaslus base camp this morning. Arnold Coster also pointed out that his team was currently falling from Camp 3.
Warner Rojas announced that many were in the upper section of Manaslu because less wind had been scheduled for October 3. It should have been his day at the top.

“But there was heavy snowfall overnight and [the descent] is now going to be very difficult,” he added. He said the avalanche washed away many tents in those upper camps.
Rojas himself and most of his team had already left base camp and are now in Samagaon. Last night Viridiana Alvarez reported it was snowing and they were waiting at Camp 3 to head to Camp 4. “Patience, patience! The mountain makes the rules,” she wrote on her Garmin tracker.
