While the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is being convened in Samarkand, Uzbekistan on September 15 and 16, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has no plans to meet with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.
Foreign Office official Asim Iftikhar told Dawn that “no meeting is anticipated with the Indian prime minister.
In response to a request for comment, a representative stated that although a quick goodwill encounter between the parties was feasible, no conversations would be taking place because neither party had requested to meet. However, the foreign office announced in a statement that Prime Minister Sharif would go to the 22nd meeting of the SCO’s Council of Heads of State (CHS).
The prime minister will meet with other participating leaders in private on the CHS sidelines in addition to attending the summit, it stated.

On Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the president of Uzbekistan, who would preside over the CHS meeting, invitation, the premier will take part. The summit would be attended by the leaders of SCO members and observer states, as well as the heads of SCO organisations and other distinguished visitors.
The CHS is the SCO’s highest forum, where the organization’s strategy, prospects, and priorities are discussed and defined. The SCO leaders will discuss crucial global and regional challenges, such as climate change, food security, energy security, and sustainable supply chains, during the upcoming CHS. Additionally, they would ratify contracts and papers that would outline the future course of cooperation among SCO members.
