New Zulu monarch crowned in South Africa
In the historic ceremony that was witnessed by thousands of people in the seaside city of Durban, South Africa, a new Zulu monarch was crowned.
President Cyril Ramaphosa officially recognised King Misuzulu ka Zwelithini as the monarch by presenting him with a certificate of recognition.
Since South Africa became a democracy in 1994, this was the first Zulu coronation to take place. It puts an end to a protracted and acrimonious search for King Goodwill Zwelithini’s replacement, who passed away last year.
He held the Zulu kingdom for about 50 years, making him the Zulu monarch with the longest reign. He had at least 26 offspring and six spouses. A power struggle in the royal court was made even more intense by the mother of King Misuzulu passing away unexpectedly one month after being elected Queen Regent upon her husband’s passing.
According to Prince Bambindlovu Zulu, who spoke to the BBC, his brother will unify the monarchy and his people.
He said, “Our parents would be happy about this.” “I believe he will make a fantastic king,”
King Misuzulu declared in his first speech following his coronation that he had started a journey with the people and wished to act as a “catalyst” to effect change.
I understand that history chose me at this time since the Zulus are going through a lot of difficulties right now, he remarked. The problems include hunger, poverty, unemployment, a lack of confidence in traditional authorities and in government.

The most significant figure in the society during the 18th century, Shaka Zulu, was quoted by President Ramaphosa as saying: “He, Emperor Shaka, would say: ‘On my right is the nation, on my left are my clansmen, this is the bond that holds us together.'”
“Your majesty, you are the tie that unites the Amazulu people,” was the statement.
