Captain (r) Safdar, PML-N MPA indicted in treason case

A court in Gujranwala summoned witnesses on June 20, 2022, in the case of treason against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Captain (r) Muhammad Safdar and PML-N MPA Imran Khalid Butt.

Safdar and the MPA both appeared before Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Azam Khan.

On June 29, the court summoned both defendants in the case of interference with official duties.

The court also excused Captain (r) Safdar and another suspect in the case, Federal Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan, from appearing on the next date of hearing, while summoning the MPA and former mayor of Gujranwala.

On October 5, 2020, the Gujranwala police arrested Captain (r) Muhammad Safdar in a treason case for using harsh language against state institutions in his address to the PML-N consultative meeting at the house of MPA Imran Khalid Butt on October 2. MPA Butt was also arrested in connection with the case.
