JI stages ‘mock’ funeral of govt over hike in petrol prices

The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) in Gujranwala protested the massive increase in petroleum products (POL) prices in an unusual way on Friday, staging a mock funeral for the coalition government.

The JI workers, led by party leader Ahmad Salman Baloch, chanted anti-government slogans after the government made an extremely unpopular decision.

In an interview with the media, they stated that they were unsure whether to meet their domestic expenses or spend money on filling their tankers on their bikes.

While they were disappointed that their salaries had not been increased, they were also crushed by the skyrocketing prices of necessities.

Similar protests were reported in other cities across the country, including Karachi, where people even vandalized petrol pumps to express their displeasure with the government.

Similarly, the city’s merchants protested the government’s decision.
