Bangladesh names Shakib as third Test captain

Bangladesh cricketer Shakib Al Hasan joins politics

Thursday, all-around player Shakib Al Hasan was named Test captain for the third time by Bangladesh after Mominul Haque quit due to a bad run of form.

Before a two-Test series in the West Indies later this month, the Bangladesh Cricket Board also made batsman Liton Das the new vice-captain.

Nazmul Hassan, the president of the BCB, said at a press conference, “They will stay in their jobs until another decision is made.”

Tuesday was Mominul’s last day as captain of the Test team. The left-handed 30-year-old has scored 162 runs in six Tests in 2022, for an average of 16.20.

In Bangladesh’s recent 1-0 loss to Sri Lanka, he scored 11 runs in three innings.

This will be Shakib’s third time as captain of the Test team.

Appointed in 2009, he was fired in 2011 after losing a series in Zimbabwe. In 2017, he was given the job again.

He was in charge until the International Cricket Council (ICC) banned him in 2019 for not telling anyone about corrupt approaches.

In his previous jobs as captain, Shakib led Bangladesh in 14 games, three of which they won and 11 of which they lost.

On June 5, the team will leave for the West Indies.

During the tour, Bangladesh will also play three One-Day Internationals and three Twenty20 Internationals.

Bangladesh’s T20 and ODI teams will be led by batsmen Mahmudullah Riyad and Tamim Iqbal.
