Man behind fake Twitter accounts of ex-Army officers arrested

A suspect has been arrested for creating fake Twitter accounts in the names of retired Pakistan Army officers.

Sadaqat Hussain, a resident of Shahpur, Sargodha, has been identified as the suspect, who used to operate fake Twitter accounts of retired army officers.

During interrogation, the accused admitted to posting on social media fake voice clips of General (retd) Haroon Aslam and General (retd) Mirza Aslam Beg.

According to reports, he was on a mission to sow political division among Pakistan Army officers.

He also revealed that Shehzad Ahmed Mekan, a leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) from Sargodha, had contacted him during interrogation.

“The political party (PTI) added me to various social media groups and taught me how to start and run social media trends,” he explained.

He also gave law enforcement agencies an audio recording of a conversation with Talat Kashif, the PTI’s Canada Chapter’s Information Secretary.

It’s worth noting that Twitter is full of fake accounts, as deception and fraud have become a business on the social media platform.

The noose around those who create fake accounts has been tightened further.
