Terror threat: Sindh govt to impose section 144 across province

Following recent terrorist activities and potential terror threats, the Sindh government decided on Tuesday to implement Section 144 throughout the province.

The latest development follows a string of bomb blasts in Karachi and a warning from the Sindh Home Department about terrorist activity in Karachi’s District South.

The Sindh Home Department imposed Section 144 in District South on Friday, prohibiting the use of drone cameras and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). “Terrorists can use drones to target important buildings in the city,” the home department said in a statement.

According to sources, the decision to implement Section 144 across the province was made in the early hours of Tuesday; however, a notification will be issued by the home department soon.

Meetings, processions, and gatherings will be prohibited across Sindh following the issuance of the notification, according to the sources.

Karachi terrorist activities

On April 26, four people were killed, including three Chinese nationals, and four others were injured in a suicide blast carried out by a burqa-clad woman on the campus of the University of Karachi.

Last week, a blast in Karachi’s Saddar neighborhood killed at least one person and injured thirteen others.

Meanwhile, on May 16, a bomb ripped through Karachi’s crowded Bolton Market in Kharadar, killing one woman and injuring nearly a dozen others, including three police officers. Officials stated that a police vehicle was the intended target, as three officers were injured when an improvised explosive device planted in a motorcycle detonated near the mobile.
