PTI’s Asad Umar urges govt to immediately hold elections

Asad Umar submits resignation from PTI leadership roles

Senior Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Asad Umar asked the government on Saturday not to put the country through any more tests. He also urged those in charge to call for general elections right away so that the situation in the country doesn’t get worse.

At a press conference in Islamabad, he said that it was mostly the government’s job to protect Imran Khan, the former prime minister, and leader of the PTI. “If Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz, who was found guilty of corruption, can get security, how can a leader like Imran be denied it?” he asked.

He said that the party chairman’s real power came from the people.

Asad also dispelled the idea that the PTI would use the long march as a cover to start trouble. “We think the Constitution is the most important thing,” he said.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi, the leader of the PTI and a former foreign minister, told the media in Multan that he was sure politicians would line up this time to get party tickets for the general elections.

Qureshi also said that he didn’t want an important job or ministry anymore. “Right now, all I want is for the people of south Punjab to get better,” he said.
