Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stated unequivocally that the government will not tolerate any attempt to harm the CPEC project.
On Tuesday, PM Shehbaz presided over a meeting called to discuss the issue of providing security to Chinese nationals in Pakistan.
The meeting was attended by officials from the interior ministry, chief secretaries, and top officials from the CPEC project.
The premier was briefed on the security measures in place for Chinese nationals.
Shehbaz directed that immediate measures be taken to ensure the safety of the Chinese. He reiterated that the government would not tolerate any attempt to derail the CPEC project.
He also directed the authorities to take steps to improve the country’s law and order situation.
Prime Minister Shehbaz spoke by phone with Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China Li Keqiang on Monday, assuring him that the government would take all necessary precautions to protect Chinese citizens.
PM Shehbaz and Premier Li Keqiang both saw the Pakistan-China partnership as critical to regional and global peace and stability.
Shehbaz expressed his condolences to the Chinese government and people, as well as sympathy to the families of the victims of the heinous terrorist attack at Karachi University on April 26, 2022, in which three Chinese scholars were killed.
He strongly condemned the terrorist attack and reaffirmed Pakistan’s determination to conduct a thorough investigation, apprehend the perpetrators, and bring them to justice in accordance with our laws.
Shehbaz reiterated that Pakistan prioritized the safety, security, and protection of all Chinese nationals working on economic projects and institutions in Pakistan.
PM Shehbaz assured Premier Li that his government was committed to implementing all necessary security and safety measures for Chinese citizens in Pakistan.
