The Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) is carrying out scheduled power shutdowns across Lahore and adjoining districts from Monday, October 26, as it undertakes maintenance work and upgrades its electricity distribution system ahead of winter.
According to the reported schedule, around 200 urban and rural subdivisions will experience electricity suspensions lasting five to seven hours a day. In some areas, outages could extend to eight hours, with most shutdowns planned between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
The maintenance programme covers multiple grid stations and their connected feeders, potentially affecting residential neighbourhoods, commercial centres and industrial areas. Consumers are advised to check the applicable schedule for their local subdivision before planning their daily activities.
Lahore Areas Expected to Face Power Outages
In Lahore, the planned shutdowns will affect parts of Allama Iqbal Town, Gulshan-e-Ravi, Shadman, Johar Town, Model Town, Defence, Cantt and Walton Road.
Industrial and commercial areas around Raiwind, Manga Mandi, Sundar and Jubilee Town are also included in the reported schedule. The exact timing may vary depending on the grid station and feeder undergoing maintenance.
Outside Lahore, the shutdowns are expected to affect parts of Sheikhupura, including Qila Sattar Shah and Atta Abad, along with Kasur, Okara, Muridke, Farooqabad, Hujra Shah Muqeem and Phool Nagar.
Residents and businesses should confirm the timings for their specific areas, as a citywide schedule does not necessarily mean every listed neighbourhood will experience an outage at the same time.
Why Lesco Is Suspending Electricity
The planned work involves maintenance of 132-kilovolt and 220-kilovolt grid stations and their associated 11-kilovolt feeders.
The reported activities include replacing worn conductors and insulators, trimming tree branches near power lines, overhauling grid stations and dividing feeders to improve load management during the winter season.
Conductors carry electricity through the distribution network, while insulators help prevent unwanted electrical contact. Maintaining these components can help reduce equipment-related faults and improve the reliability of the supply system.
However, the immediate impact on consumers will depend on the work required at each location and the time needed to complete it.
Consumers Advised to Prepare for Scheduled Outages
Sources have also reported delays in the delivery of maintenance equipment and replacement parts to some Lesco field offices, raising concerns about the timely completion of work and restoration of electricity.
The reported delays have not, by themselves, established that the scheduled outages will be extended. Consumers should rely on updated notices from Lesco for any changes to the timetable.
Households and businesses in affected areas can prepare by charging mobile phones and backup batteries, arranging alternative lighting and ensuring that essential electrical equipment is safely switched off before the outage.
Consumers who depend on electrically powered medical equipment should make suitable backup arrangements in advance.
For the latest updates, consumers can consult the Lesco official website and check for notices or announcements covering their local subdivision.
The maintenance programme is intended to prepare the distribution network for seasonal demand, but the actual duration of each shutdown will depend on the work scheduled at the relevant grid station or feeder.
