Pakistan, Lithuania Discuss Visa Facilitation for Students

Pakistan and Lithuania have discussed ways to facilitate travel for students, professionals and businesspeople, but neither country has announced new visa rules following the latest diplomatic talks.

The issue was raised during the eighth round of Pakistan-Lithuania Bilateral Political Consultations, held virtually on October 19, 2026. According to Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the discussions covered consular matters, trade, economic cooperation and people-to-people contacts.

Visa Facilitation Remains Part of Diplomatic Discussions

The two sides discussed measures to facilitate mobility for professionals, students and businesspeople. However, the official statement did not announce a visa waiver, a simplified application process or changes to existing entry requirements.

Pakistani citizens planning to visit Lithuania should therefore continue to follow the applicable visa requirements until the relevant authorities announce any formal changes.

The Pakistani delegation was led by Ambassador Ayesha Ali, Additional Secretary for Europe, while Lithuanian Vice-Minister Vidmantas Verbickas headed his country’s delegation, according to the two foreign ministries.

Lithuania’s own account of the meeting also highlighted education and consular cooperation, as well as opportunities to strengthen ties between businesses, academic institutions and public-sector organisations.

IT, Trade and Business Cooperation on Agenda

Beyond visa-related matters, Pakistan and Lithuania reaffirmed their intention to expand economic ties and encourage greater engagement between their private sectors.

Information technology and digital services received particular attention during the consultations. Both sides also discussed wider trade and economic cooperation, reflecting their interest in developing practical links between businesses in the two countries.

The talks did not announce a specific investment agreement or new commercial project. Instead, they formed part of the ongoing diplomatic process aimed at identifying areas where cooperation could expand.

Pakistan and Lithuania Review International Developments

The delegations also exchanged views on regional and international issues and discussed coordination at multilateral forums.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office said the Lithuanian side appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting regional peace and stability through dialogue and diplomacy.

Lithuania’s statement separately highlighted discussions on international security, including Russia’s war against Ukraine, respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and Pakistan’s efforts to support peace talks between the United States and Iran.

Both countries agreed to maintain close coordination on issues of mutual interest and hold the next round of bilateral political consultations on a mutually agreed date.

What the Talks Mean for Pakistani Travellers

The latest consultations show that visa and consular facilitation is on the bilateral agenda, particularly for people travelling for education, professional opportunities and business.

For now, however, the discussions should not be interpreted as a change in Lithuania’s visa policy for Pakistani passport holders.

Travellers should rely on official announcements from the relevant authorities before making plans based on any expected changes.

The meeting marks another step in Pakistan and Lithuania’s efforts to broaden diplomatic, economic and educational cooperation.
