Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has introduced a new restriction limiting the number of cigarettes cabin crew members can carry while travelling on flying duty.
The decision comes after five PIA flight attendants were reportedly found carrying a large quantity of cigarette packets while travelling on duty.
According to a PIA circular, cabin crew members will now be permitted to carry only one cigarette packet containing up to 20 cigarettes during flying duty.
PIA Warns of Disciplinary Action
The airline has warned that staff members who exceed the permitted cigarette limit could face disciplinary proceedings.
Those found violating the new instruction may be suspended or removed from flying duties, depending on the action taken by the airline.
The restriction follows an incident involving five cabin crew members who were reportedly found carrying numerous cigarette packets while travelling on a PIA flight from Multan to Jeddah several days ago.
PIA Launches Probe Into Five Crew Members
PIA’s Human Resources department has launched an investigation into the incident, with proceedings against all five crew members currently underway.
The airline has also instructed officials to communicate the new cigarette limit to cabin crew members during their pre-flight briefings.
PIA has made compliance with the instruction mandatory and directed all staff travelling on duty to remain within the prescribed limit.
The move establishes a clear limit for cigarettes carried by cabin crew during flying duty and follows the airline’s investigation into the reported incident involving five employees.
