Sheikh Ibrahim bin Adel Al-Madani, a muezzin at Makkah’s Grand Mosque, has passed away at the age of 51. His death was also confirmed by the Saudi Broadcasting Authority and the Presidency of Religious Affairs.
Sheikh Al-Madani was among the 24 principal muezzins of the Grand Mosque. Six muezzins rotate each day to deliver the call to prayer for the five daily prayers, along with the first Fajr adhan.
He was particularly known for his Fajr adhan and recitation of takbeers. He also performed tabligh from the mosque’s Mukabbariyah, relaying the imam’s takbeers so they could be heard by worshippers across the Grand Mosque.
Reports said his final Fajr adhan at the Grand Mosque was delivered on Monday, hours before his death. The cause of his death has not been publicly disclosed by Saudi authorities.
News of his death triggered an outpouring of tributes on social media. People shared audio recordings and videos of his adhan and takbeers, while a hashtag carrying his name also circulated online.
Saudi media reported that Sheikh Al-Madani was born in Madinah and began serving as a muezzin at a young age before eventually joining the group of muezzins at the Grand Mosque.
His death has prompted tributes from people who remembered his distinctive voice and his service in delivering the call to prayer at Masjid Al-Haram.
