DHAKA: Shakib Al Hasan is fit and ready to play in Bangladesh’s second Test against Pakistan next week in Dhaka, his team announced on Tuesday.
Shakib’s time at the T20 World Cup was cut short by a hamstring injury against the West Indies last month, and he missed Pakistan’s three-match short format series in November.
He was named in the squad for the first Test, which Pakistan won by an eight-wicket margin on Tuesday, but he has since been ruled out.
In the absence of crucial spinner Shakib, Taijul Islam led Bangladesh to alone and losing struggle, despite his 7-116, which helped the hosts to a 44-run first-inning advantage.
Taskin Ahmed, a pace bowler who missed the first Test owing to a finger injury, was also selected in Bangladesh’s squad. Mohammad Naim, a batsman who has appeared in 32 T20Is and two ODIs, has received his first Test call-up.
From December 4 to 8, the second Test will take hold in Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
