The Federal Cabinet approved the summary to remove Omar Sarfraz Cheema from the position of Punjab Governor on Tuesday.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif presided over the federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad.
The cabinet also approved the appointment of Fawad Asadullah Khan, an officer of grade-21, as permanent director-general of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), whose notification had already been issued by the Establishment Division. He previously served as Commandant of the IB Academy.
The meeting addressed the country’s current political situation as well as other pressing issues.
Cabinet members claimed that a constitutional process was used to remove Punjab Governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema and President Alvi from their positions. The cabinet was briefed on the details of the court order to depose the Punjab Governor.
The cabinet also approved the resignation of Wapda Chairman Lt Gen (rtd) Muzzamil Hussain, and an additional charge has been assigned to Wapda member finance Naveed Asghar Chaudhry for a three-month period.
