Google TV Freeplay Adds 10,000+ On-Demand Movies and Shows

Google TV Freeplay Adds 10,000+ On-Demand Movies and Shows

Google’s free streaming service is getting a major upgrade, with Google TV Freeplay now allowing users to choose movies and TV shows on demand rather than being limited to live channels alone.

The new library includes more than 10,000 movies and TV shows, all accessible directly through Google TV without requiring users to install additional streaming apps.

On-Demand Library Powered by A24, Lionsgate Partnerships

The expanded on-demand selection comes through partnerships with content providers, including A24 and Lionsgate. To make navigation easier, Google has added dedicated “Live TV” and “Free movies & shows” tabs, letting users switch between live channels and on-demand content without friction.

Google says the new feature is beginning to roll out this week, with availability initially focused on Google TV devices in the US.

Building on a Growing Live Channel Lineup

The on-demand expansion adds to Freeplay’s existing free live channel lineup, which passed 250 channels in December 2025 and has now grown to more than 300 channels, according to Google.

With on-demand content now part of the mix, Freeplay is expanding beyond its original identity as a free, ad-supported live TV service, giving users more control over what they choose to watch and when.

What Is Google TV Freeplay?

Google TV Freeplay is Google’s built-in free streaming service for Google TV devices in the US, offering access to ad-supported live television channels without the need to download separate streaming apps. With this update, the service now combines hundreds of live channels with a library of more than 10,000 free on-demand movies and TV shows.
