The Islamabad High Court has rejected a petition for a court order to immediately stop Hanif Abbasi from working as a special aide to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
By law, the Supreme Court urged the government to reconsider the appointment of Hanif Abbasi as the prime minister’s special aide.
On Monday, the Supreme Court heard a petition from former interior minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad, who pleaded with the court to stop PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi from working as a special assistant to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif starting today.
Despite rejecting a petition, the high court directed that the matter be sent back to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and asked him to review Hanif Abbasi’s appointment, and adjourned the hearing to May 17.
The federal government and cabinet division secretary have been served with notices from the court asking for a response to the petition.
It was earlier requested by the petitioner’s lawyer that Hanif Abbasi’s employment as a special aide to the prime minister be terminated immediately.
Petitioner Sh Rashid was summoned to the rostrum by IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah during the hearing and asked if he or his ally PTI had faith in the court. Deplorable, he said, the accusations levelled against courts in public rallies by the political parties and their supporters.
PTI: Does Islamabad High Court have confidence in the PTI. We’ll move the case to another court if the PTI doesn’t have faith in this one, said Justice Minallah in his remarks.
An important and significant number of cases were being heard in this court, the judge said. In his words, “justice should be served and justice should be made manifest through the verdicts of courts.
