A major development has emerged in the rape and murder case of seven-year-old Muntaha Zahra in Sargodha, as the main accused, Arsalan, was killed during an alleged encounter with the Crime Control Department.
Police officials said the incident occurred when the accused was being taken for recovery of the murder weapon near Jhal Chakian Teen Pul.
How the Case Unfolded
According to police, Muntaha Zahra left her home to buy an item from a nearby grocery store but did not return. After the family raised the alarm, law enforcement agencies launched a search operation using CCTV footage and other available evidence.
During the investigation, the child’s body was recovered from the upper floor of a shop in the area, triggering widespread public outrage and grief.
Arrests and Transfer of Investigation
Police said four suspects, including the main accused Arsalan, were arrested in connection with the crime. Given the sensitivity of the case, the investigation was later transferred to the Crime Control Department for further inquiry and recovery of evidence.
Officials stated that CCD teams were working to collect physical evidence and trace links to other suspects involved in the crime.
Encounter During Recovery Operation
According to CCD officials, Arsalan was being escorted to recover the murder weapon when alleged accomplices opened fire on the police team. The attack forced the CCD personnel to respond in self-defense.
During the exchange of fire, Arsalan was killed, reportedly by bullets fired by his own accomplices. The attackers managed to escape the scene following the incident.
Search for Absconding Suspects
After the encounter, police called in additional forces and formed special teams to track down the suspects who fled. Authorities said search operations are ongoing and raids are being conducted at multiple locations.
Officials confirmed that further investigation is underway to identify all individuals involved and ensure they are brought to justice.
